You can't say we don't have variety here - this post is about the beautiful De Bijenkorf department store here in The Hague. Opened in 1926, it is a fine example of between wars architecture with many details still remaining. It survived moderately undamaged during the bombings of WW2, unlike many of its neighbours. There are some seriously ugly buildings in the Centrum but a few gems remain, like this one. 'De Bijenkorf' means the bee hive, hence the store's icon.
The store, one of twelve, was owned by Jewish partners. Today the group that owns Selfridges manages the chain (since 2010).
